Rumor has it that an alumni club existed in Bay County before 2000, but it had disbanded and become inactive for a period of time. A group of founding members met at the former Stein Haus to discuss organizing what was to become the MSU Alumni Club of Bay County, now known as the Bay County Spartans.
Early on, club members decided that both a social and scholarship focus was needed. The first scholarship event allowed us to award just a few hundred dollars for books, but we quickly developed a larger former dinner event and were on our way. We’ve done lots of neat things, from hosting Chinese exchange students for a concert at the State Theatre (State at the State), traveling to Wharton Center for a performance, hosting numerous game watches, marching in parades, gathering on campus for football games, volunteering for community clean up, cruising the Saginaw River and singing the fight song and transforming our scholarship fundraiser over time into a unique and successful major event.
We made new friends, seen a few pass on and have cheered our Spartans in good times and bad, because Spartans Will. We embrace alumni, supporter and fans and even make friends with those whose colors aren’t green and white… yet!
If you are looking to be a part of something special, join our story. We’ve only just begun.
